not just a water bottle

One afternoon we were strolling in a shopping mall when I saw this.

I reached out towards it and thought to myself how stylish this water bottle is and how cool to drink water from it. I must have looked contemplative, for she asked “What are you thinking about?”. I told her my thoughts. She said “If you have this water bottle, will you really drink from it?”

A little history about myself: I don’t like to drink plain water, unless it’s contained in a nice glass ware, or something aesthetic looking. When I am very thirsty, anything goes, but generally I don’t like to drink plain water.

“Of course I would! This looks so vintage.” I replied.

“Ok, I’ll buy for you.” She said.

“Huh…it’s so ex. Don’t waste the money.” I said.

“To get you to drink water, it’s worth it.” She said.

“Hmmm…” I hesitated.

In the end, after much contemplation, we decided that the first one is so classy looking that I will probably place it somewhere on a shelf and admire it. So finally we decided on this.

It’s much easier to open and hardier to carry around. To prevent me from losing it, I will sometimes hook my office pass through it and sling it over my shoulder. My work partner said that I look like a school kid lugging a water bottle around waiting for recess.

I love this water bottle, because it carries with it more than just water, it carries love, love and so much love. Now I drink at least half a litre of water per day, thanks to the power of love…

Memory Lane

I was clearing out my stuff when I found a book (see below) I created for a school project 2 years back. Looking through it made me realize how much freedom I was given as a student, to pretty much design anything I wish. Those were the days where you were given a design brief, and a three-months deadline. You can take your laptop, sit at a cafe and work at your own pace and leisure. Total freedom.

Looking forward to my two weeks of break, sometime this year…

Reunion Dinner

It’s reunion dinner at my house now. All my relatives are here. It’s noisy and crowded outside. My little cousins are running around and happily messing up my study room. I am in my bedroom, typing away. Don’t know why, but this year I feel kind of anti-social from my relatives. Maybe I am tired of small talks. “Where are you working now?” “Are you still studying?”(By the same relatives who asked the same questions the year before) “When are you getting married?” (By all relatives as all my cousins who are above 25 are married.) Most of my aunties (from my dad’s side) are housewives, so general topics with them surround their kids, exams, and how cheap the fish are from certain market. My uncles (their husbands) will talk to me about random things like how prices are increasing and general politics, how to cook the best fish, and how much they are betting on the next soccer match. My cousins near my age are all married, so they are with their own families. And my little cousins are playing hide-and-seek, which I can hardly join in without exposing myself behind the chair, or under the table.

Or maybe, I am staying away because it’s rare that I have time on my hands. And I just need a quiet moment to reflect on my life. 2007 was a year of hoo-haas. Thinking through it makes me wonder in bewilderment how so many things can happen in such a short time.

I don’t know why I am rambling. Maybe I am in a reflective mood tonight.

My parents have rung me 4 times. I think it’s time I go out and have my dinner.

I look forward to the year 2008. And I hope it’s a year of manifested blessings.

Game: Six Random Things

I was tagged by syllystitch to talk about six random things/habits/quirks about myself. And then i am to tag six other random people and tell them they have been tagged. It’s tough, as I am a very ‘random’ kind of person. Too many to shortlist… But here are the first 6 that I can think of.

1. I love the smell of rain.

2. My ideal past time is to curl up with a good book and a cup of tea. Hopefully I can have a mini library of my own some day.

3. My earliest memories are those when I was about 8 months old, in a cradle. I can remember the exact shade of the curtains, the walls and the doors (as seen from the angle in the cradle).

4. I have a phobia of sharp objects coming towards my eyes.

5. I have not watched proper television shows for more than 10 months.

6. I have not celebrated a romantic Valentine’s Day before.

As for the 6 other people, let me think about it.
